Design objectives
In Koakuma, players will be immersed in an intense combat with the use of different heroes that is unique and equally accessible to all players. Unlike in regular games, wherein the equipment are just mere display and collectibles, players will have an ownership of the equipment they get.
The gameplay will be as smooth as it can be so the players will enjoy Koakuma at its fullest, it will be easy to operate, and balanced within a certain range.
Introduction
Under the player’s command, the hero will cast skills to attack and defend from the enemies with amazing precision.
Combat elements
A combat system consists of several elements: operations, characters, equipment.
Operational elements
Like any other 3D MMORPG games, if you choose to play on PC, the hero will follow the command of the player through the use of keyboard and mouse.
If you like to play with your mobile phones (android and IOS), you press the skill button and release it to cast whenever you are near an enemy. You will target the nearest enemy automatically and hit it.
Character elements
Role Levels
Finding the perfect role that suits you best is the key to winning any battle. It will benefit your gameplay and will also make the game more enjoyable.
Your selected hero can gain experience by defeating and killing monsters. Every time your hero levels up, the stats will also improve. The more monsters you kill, the stronger you will be.
Role Skills
Each hero has a set of unique skills. New skills can be unlocked by upgrading skills. You can change the current skill on the skill panel. Skills are circular buttons found at the bottom of your screen. Every hero’s skill interacts with each other in specific ways.
Skills can be categorized into different types, such as directly dealing damage, healing the hero, or adding an effect (buff/debuff) to the target. You need to familiarize your hero’s skill to bring out the hero’s full potential.
When you cast a skill, mana that can be regenerated over time or rage that increases by attacks, are consumed depending on your selected hero/role.
For example, when a mage casts a fireball, certain mana will be consumed, while a warrior casts a spell, it costs rage. When mane/rage is low, skills cannot be casted, so choosing skills requires strategy.
Each skill has a cooldown — minimum length of time that the player needs to wait after using a skill before they can cast it again.
Skill Rune
The skill rune is a special system that enhances the effects of specific skills. Skill runes can be inlaid on a given skill, and their main function is to increase the effect of the skill. Only one rune can be inlaid into a skill. For example, two fireballs are released when the original fireball spell is inlaid with runes. Using this feature can tip a battle in your favor.
There are several types of skill runes that correspond to different effects:
- Improves skill power
- Adds or lengthens skill effect attributes
- Increased the number of attacks or increased the attack range
- Reduced skill consumption
- Add skill special effects
Character equipment
Equipment rarity
When the hero level requirement is met, you can wear more advanced equipment. In addition to the basic attack and defense stats, rare items may have better bonus stats, such as increased skill damage, immunity to stun, etc. But the bonus effect on equipment is random, and you get better equipment by killing more monsters.
Item rarity is divided into several categories from lowest to highest: white, green, blue, purple, and orange
Equipment Enhancement
Each piece of equipment can improve its base stats through enhancement, which costs “strong fossils” and game coins per enhancement. There is randomness when equipment is improved, and it will not succeed every time. The higher the enhancement level, the lower the success rate. The higher the rarity, the higher the upper limit of equipment enhancement.
Equipment Inlay
There is a chance of an inlay slot in an item, which allows you to inlay various gems into the item. Equip with special abilities. So carefully select the right gem according to the skills.
Fighting
When the hero approaches the monster warning range, the monster moves towards the player and attacks. When monsters attack, the player can move to avoid attacks, and can use skills to counter attacks or defend.
Attack Methods
You can engage an enemy using either a normal attack or using a skill. You can adjust the attack mode by changing skills. Normal attacks deal low damage but consumption of mana/rage is low. Combine the normal skill with several other powerful skills to deal heavy damage to the target. Choosing the right time to cast skills should be regularly considered.
Defense Means
Defending your character in battle basically falls into 2 categories:
- Action shift: Move the hero out of monster range using your mouse or the joystick button on the screen.
- Evasive skill: Some character skills can change character position and release doable attacks at the right time.
Resurrection Mechanism
When a hero’s health is reduced to zero (0), the battle ends. Players will be given the chance to use items to resurrect their heroes and continue the fight, it will also restore all status of the hero. However, if the player chooses to disregard the resurrection, the dungeon will be abandoned.
Damage calculation
In addition to the damage caused by skill attacks (base damage of the skill + the effect of inlaid rune, if there is an active one), the hero’s own attributes and equipment bonuses contribute mainly with the damage dealt.
Character Damage = Character Attributes + Equipment attributes
Equip Attributes = Equip Improved Level + Equip Additional attributes + Equip Gems
Final damage = Skill damage * Character attack power
Hate mechanics
Monsters in the game choose targets based on their threat value. For example, when the player encounters a group of monsters, and one of them notices the player, all of the monsters around attack the player together. When multiple players challenge a dungeon together, the monster will attack the player with the highest threat first. Some heroes can taunt monsters with skills that increase their threat.
Threat: When a monster is attacked by a player, a threat is generated. The threat value affects the monster’s choice of target. In addition to being affected by attacks; regeneration and support skills also affect threat.
